Type Locality and Naming

Along the Tansaray gorge, Karatau Mountains, South Nuratau ridge. I.A.Pyanovskaya in 1984 (371, p.50).

Synonym: Tansaray Suite, Тансарайская св.


Lithology and Thickness

Polymictic sandstones and sandy siltstone (aleurolites) of various grain sizes (from fine to gravel), with subordinate amounts of siliceous-chlorite, chlorite-sericite, quartz-chlorite slates. A characteristic feature of the suite is the bluish-greenish color of the rock. Up to 350-800 m.

Lower contact

The relationships with the underlying and overlying strata are tectonic.

Upper contact

The relationships with the underlying and overlying strata are tectonic.

Regional extent

In the form of tectonic scales and blocks in the western part of the South Nuratau ridge, Karatau Mountains, Tansaray gorge area, Saidpalych, east of the Karakarga pass. The most significant fragment of the section is in the Tansaray gorge area. It is an analogue of the Kaltadavan Fm.

Contains Paleozoic chitinozoa, the determination of which requires clarification.


Age 

The age is conditionally middle-late Ordovician Along the correlation with the Kaltadavan suite. I.A.Pyanovskaya et al. (371) and in the Stratigraphic Lexicon (443) dated the age to the late Silurian-early Devonian. R.R.Usmanov (Korsakov et al., 1993) refers these deposits to the Chashmin Fm and attributes them to the Vendian-lower Cambrian.
